I was very self-conscious when I first started sketching in public.  However, I've found that, on the rare occasions when someone has noticed, the comments are usually flattering.  After a while, it became second nature.  I now sketch everywhere: in meetings, on the street, in doctor's waiting rooms, in restaurants, at concerts.  In fact, I'm now more comfortable with my sketchbook than without it.
Band Concert
2003

These sketches were done at my daughter's band concert.  Musicians and musical instruments are wonderful subjects.

  Thanksgiving
2001

I made these sketches while spending a Thanksgiving Day with friends.  It's a great way to remember a warm time together.

  In the Park
2002

The backlit figure and tree caught my eye while driving through the park.  I stopped and made this quick sketch.

  Camp Orkila Counselors
2003

I sketched the counselors at a camp my son attended.  One of them came over to see what I was doing, took a look, and yelled, "Hey, it's us."  Moments like that don't come often enough.

Patient
2002

This gentleman was sitting in the doctor's waiting room.  I couldn't pass up the ears!
