I was very self-conscious when I first started sketching in
public. However, I've found that, on the rare occasions
when someone has noticed, the comments are usually flattering.
After a while, it became second nature. I now sketch
everywhere: in meetings, on the street, in doctor's waiting
rooms, in restaurants, at concerts. In fact, I'm now more
comfortable with my sketchbook than without it. |
Band Concert
2003These sketches were done at my daughter's band
concert. Musicians and musical instruments are wonderful
subjects. |

2001I made these sketches while spending a Thanksgiving
Day with friends. It's a great way to remember a warm
time together. |

2002The backlit figure and tree caught my eye while
driving through the park. I stopped and made this quick

Camp Orkila
Counselors
2003I sketched the counselors at a camp my son attended.
One of them came over to see what I was doing, took a look,
and yelled, "Hey, it's us." Moments like that don't come
often enough. |

Patient
2002This gentleman was sitting in the doctor's waiting
room. I couldn't pass up the ears!
